A Running Revelation!

I had a monumental run last night! I hopped on the treadmill with no particular goal in mind. Feeling pretty good after 1 mile, it occured to me that it could be my 5k night! So, by the time I reached my previous run record, 2.1 miles, I set my mind on 3.1 miles. It took a great gritting of teeth, but I knew I couldn't waste this opportunity if I still had the energy left in my legs, lungs, and heart. Needless to say, I was already celebrating by the time I reached 2.9 :)

Before last night, I had this wall in my mind telling me I just wasn't capable of achieving that 5k distance, but as simple as 10 extra minutes of pain, I proved to myself that I was indeed quite capable. With every new distance I reach, that distance becomes my minimum for every run thereafter. I have now set a brand new bar for myself that I fully intend to sustain. Tonight, I have decided, would be a good rest night, and I fully intend to savor every hour of rest. Quite frankly, I have a brand new mindset and confidence when it comes to my running, and I can't wait to see where this motivation takes me.

So as my dear boyfriend pointed out last night, this successful run begs the question of whether or not to run Saturday in the 5k. I have decided that if I can run 5k on a treadmill all by myself, surely I can do it with a person I hold in very high esteem encouraging me and pushing me ahead. The fun thing about this race is that, being held on October 30th, it is a costumed race. John (BF) and I have decided it would be fun to run as a cowboy and Indian girl :) My friend Becky gave me the cutest idea for an easy Indian girl costume, which we will be making together before the week is out. I will be sure to post a picture of our costumes for Saturday so stay tuned! :)

As a side note, I am very pleased to share how much I am loving this blogging notion :) I simply can't imagine why I didn't start blogging sooner. It has been such a joy in just a matter of 3 posts and 4 days! Thank you for reading! Please keep coming back!
