Very disgruntled..

Today was the day that I learned that most guys are the furthest thing from trustworthy. Actually, I learned that a long time ago. Today is one of many days that reaffirmed that. I'm working my hardest to be calm while typing this, as I don't want my anger immortalized in the text of the world wide web. But I am livid.

The worst part of being reminded how worthless most guys are is that fact that they play a large role in my dreams. I dream of being married and raising a family. I dreamed of being married to my best friend, in whom I can place paramount measures of trust. Is he out there or am I just delusional. :(

Antique Jewelry

So, I'm not much of a jewelry wearing girl. Typically, the only jewelry I choose are small, special, staple pieces. Like my rings, for instance. Before last week, two rings, one on each hand, stayed on my fingers at all time. Both were gifts from my mother. One is an antique white gold ring with a light amethyst stone (my birth stone). The other was a Christmas gift. It was a sterling silver Claddagh ring, also with an amethyst stone.

While on vacation in Tennessee last week, we visited several antique stores, for I am from one antique-loving family (and I myself love them as well). Just before we left one store I spotted a beautiful sterling silver size 5 ring with, you guessed it, an amethyst stone! I tried it on, pretended to not be totally in love, my mom and grandy insisted, and the rest is history! I replaced my Claddagh ring, on my right ring finger, with this beautiful little find.

So now my fingers are adorned with two antique amethyst rings of which I am quite proud :)

I'm back!

After a many-months-long hiatus, I have decided to return to the world of blogging! Yay! So what have I kept from the blogging world in the past several months? Well, I graduated from MSA as valedictorian! I never thought the day would come, but sure enough, I gave my speech, walked across the stage, shook hands, and that was it! I decided to go to Mississippi State, and chose Anthropology as my major. I don't really have any idea where I want to go with that, but I know I love the field. As long as I'm studying something I love, school wont feel like school at all. If my degree never makes me rich, I feel like it will always contribute to my happiness, and that's very important to me.

I've also lived an entire dating relationship in the time I've been gone! It lasted from April 23 to July 18, just shy of three months. I never consider any relationship in life a failure if you learn from it, and I learned tremendous amounts of lessons from this past relationship. These are lessons I will carry into friendships, my relationship with Christ, my relationship with my (future) children, and my (future) marriage. For what more could I ask?

Speaking of my relationship with Christ, that has grown a ton since we last spoke! Several factors, from my relationship with my boyfriend to Student Life camp to simple Bible reading to hours of prayer and introspection have all opened up a lot of doors in my relationship and perspective of God, my true master. I've been shown more clearly my purpose on the earth, I've been humbled by His blatant sovereignty, I've been comforted by His constant hand of love. For all of these things, I am far less grateful than I should be, but I'm working on it. I hope I only continue to grow towards Him in school these next few years.

I'll try to save some more of my noteworthy topics for the next few weeks, as I'm sure I'll quickly run out of interesting things to share, like I did before. I'll leave you with a picture from my new favorite activity, kayaking! I went yesterday on the Bogue Chitto River with my friend, Matt, and it was so much fun!

I am so sore today!

I'm sore because last night I ran 4.2 miles on the treadmill, went to yoga and pilates class (pilates=ouch), then ran another 2. I'm feeling the pressure with the 10k next Saturday! And this 10k is particularly scary because it is in the (intense) hills of Vicksburg :( I feel confident about the 6.2 miles, just not so much in addition to hills.. So this week is going to be dedicated to running. I'm hoping to get in at least two long runs, maybe three, with 3 or 4 mile runs in between. Gosh, it feels nice to type 3 or 4 as my short distances :)

On a different note, today was the first day of state NATS! Remember that singing competition I did in the fall? Well that was regional for MS, LA, and AR. This was just for Mississippi! I decided to do both the musical theatre and classical categories. During prelims for MT, I started with "Unusual Way" from Nine, which has grown on me tremendously, and they requested "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" from My Fair Lady. I definitely forgot the words in the middle of the second, but I still got two yeses out of three, putting me forward to semi-finals, in which I sang "Loverly" again, this time actually remembering the words ;)

For the classical category, I began with "Loveliest of Trees" by John Duke, a piece that, though I'm very insecure about it, is so beautiful that I can't resist it. They then requested (to my great relief) "Per La Gloria" by Bononcini, from the 26 Italian Songs and Arias book. This song I have been singing since last year, and I'm very comfortable with it. The third song on my list was from a John Carter cantata ("Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child") and I had barely even sung through it three times, banking on their not choosing it. Anyway, the two I sang went fairly smoothly, and I, again, got two out of three yeses, enough to allow me to sing in the semi-finals for classical as well! For this, I chose the Italian piece, because I knew my nerves would be even more racked and I couldn't depend on myself to sing the Duke. So now, I'm waiting on my friends who are still in Hattiesburg to text me with the verdict on whether or not I will be going back tomorrow to sing for finals! ::fingers crossed::

Here is a recording of "Unusual Way", a song which many of you may not have heard. It's become a favorite of mine even though I truly didn't care for it much whenever I began singing it and listening to it. There's something so powerful about the raw feeling of it.. Anyway, enjoy this lovely lady singing it far better than I ever could :)

Busy times in the life of Kelli-Anne!

But, hopefully, the worst is over for now! I had a crazy week last week, driving back and forth to my hometown every night for rehearsals. But as of Saturday night, Junior Miss is over for me.. Bittersweet because it was hard to see that time end, but I'll actually have free time now! My race results were posted (way too late and quite disorganized and not detailed). I, personally, as a little disappointed in the lack of formality in this race. The course was only 2.8 miles, the t-shirts were scarce, and even after paying the $30 registration fee, the t-shirts were $15 each. It took them over a week to post results, and there were no details included. Some times didn't even have names! Anyway, my time was 27:40, which is nothing out of the ordinary for 2.8 miles for me. It was pretty special when I was still under the impression that the race course was actually a 5k :-/

Oh well, it was a fun first race of the year, and I'm currently trying to get myself together for a VERY hilly 10k on March 5th. We'll see how that goes down. Best wishes!

ps: I now have a new 4th cousin, once remove, a baby girl added to her three sisters and one brother :) yay

Classes at the gym!

Tonight Scarlett and I gave some classes a try, Zumba and Yoga/Pilates. Not so fond of the Zumba class (we're under the impression that it wasn't like real Zumba), but the Yoga/Pilates class was really good, and by good, I mean tough, and by tough I mean I better have some sore glutes and abs tomorrow. It was a lot different from what I expected as for as the strengthening went. I was definitely feeling some burn, and I was even modifying on some of the poses. But overall, it was really relaxing and empowering! I'd surely be game to go back :)

Still no verdict on Saturday, but I feel certain my parents are leaning towards no :( On the bright side, I may be adding a 5k in Oxford on Feb. 26 to my prospective races list.
